８月２１日（月）に新しいＡＬＴのアンドレア・ゴメズ（Andrea Gomez）先生の新任式を行いました。

アンドレア先生はカナダからご着任されましたが、南米ベネズエラ出身ということもあって、英語はもちろんのこと、スペイン語も話されます。また、大学で日本語を勉強なさっていたので、日本語の発音も流暢です。

アンドレア先生は授業や部活動を通して、生徒、職員と積極的にコミュニーケーションをとり、互いに成長していきたいと抱負を述べられました。

以下はアンドレア先生のスピーチの内容です。

Good morning! Nice to meet you. My name is Andrea and I’m your new ALT. I was born in Venezuela and moved to Canada with my family when I was 9 years old. Because of this, I speak Spanish and English. I came to Japan because I want to better my Japanese and because I want to teach languages in the future. I think working with your teachers, who have more experience and different perspectives and ideas, would be great for my teaching career. Of course, I’m also very excited to learn more about Japanese culture so that I can share it with my family and friends back home. My first impression of Japan is that it is much hotter than I anticipated. Sometimes, I feel like I’m going to melt. More importantly, though, I found that Japanese people are as kind and helpful as the stories say, which your teachers have shown to me as throughout these past 2 weeks as they have helped me start my life in Sasebo. I’m very lucky to have gotten such a supportive group of coworkers. My goal in Sasebo Minami is to tell you not just about Canada, but also about Venezuela and all the other wonderful places that I’ve visited, so that hopefully I’ll inspire you to go out and see them for yourselves. I know that you all probably grew very close with Elizabeth over the past 4 years; I hope that we will be able to become just as good friends while I’m here.
